Tong Yuen

I made some Tong Yuen recently. I made some rainbow colours tong yuen last year see last year But this year my colour choice came from this bowl I have made.

I will name this bowl Siew Chooi. Although Siew Chooi is not perfectly thrown on the throwing wheel but the imperfection makes Siew Chooi unique.

I usually like cold tong yuen but it is so cold here in Holland right now, a warm bowl of tong yuen is better.

I got a bit carried away with the colours.

I managed to make some other ceramic pieces too this year. For more photos of my ceramics please visit https://www.facebook.com/yueky.art  . I am satisfied 2013, hope 2014 is better!

Buns and Tableware

Baked some buns today. I wanted to illustrate this recipe for myself as I can't read a recipe while baking. I have to be able to just "look" at a recipe and bake. If I have to read I will probably make some tea and even start have the fireplace on. By the time I finish reading a recipe I might probably doze off like a grandma with my cats nestling near my ankles.

I have some steamed yams filling for the buns.

One thing lead to another, I decided to stuff some white chocolate blocks in the bun dough.

Actually the truth was, I just made some tableware. So I thought I would bake something to photograph my plates with. This is Mayi.
Mayi was formed entirely by hand. Because of this, the surface is irregular. I think irregularities like this should be embraced as  it is handmade.

I love jade tone glaze like celadon. But I could not find a good celadon colour I like. This time I used lettuce colour glaze on Mayi which turns out to be very jadite.

This is Natanee. It is a bit different from Lacey and Meicy as I used a thicker brush on glaze. The underglaze is a bit runny. I should have used a thicker underglaze. Lacey and Meicy were glazed with a powder form transparent glaze and their clay body are still visible.

I made a baby Lucy to give DH Zoetemeer as a free gift. She bought Lacey and Meicy.

One thing lead to another. And another... I can't help myself but drew something on the buns when trying to label the buns.

I am quiet delighted with it myself.

Teochew Mooncakes

Here you go.Mooncakes.Homemade.First attempt.
Thanks to my sis for the recipe.

Oh! I made some plates too. This is called Melanie.

This is Meicy. She is sold.

The yam fillings can replaced with a block of chocolate, cheeses or whatever. Here 500g yam was steamed, mashed, 65g sugar + 20g powder milk + 30g butter added and voila!

Wishing all my family and friends a very Happy mid Autumn Festival!!! 中秋节快乐!举头望明月,低头思故乡

Char Siew Pau

Didn't know this is even possible! DH Friesland Lannie gave us this link from http://mykitch3n.blogspot.nl/2009/04/char-siew-bao.html and I must say it is good!

Always thought I have to run to a dim sum restaurant for these. I still need to practise pleating the top of the dough. Or maybe I would try substituting meat with chicken or even try curry fillings.

Yummy! My sis told me coincidently there is a Pau Challenge called "Aspiring Bakers #31 Bao Ho-Chiak Challenge" organized by Miss B of http://everybodyeatswell.blogspot.be/2013/05/aspiring-bakers-31-bao-ho-chiak.html

Small Small Baker/Aspiring Bakers

So I am joining in the fun with my amateur pau !

Panna Cotta

Asked my sis for a simple panna cotta recipe. One that I do not even have to look at a recipe. And I got this. Very simple indeed.

I wanted to try this process on tau foo faa/ soya bean curd as I can't find gypsum powder over here. DH Friesland said go ahead and try agar agar too. So I did.

I bought a packet of soya milk and another with chocolate flavour and experimenting heating them with a sheet of gelatine. The green is soya milk with agar agar powder. I think it is okay. Instant tau foo faa hahahaha...

Tea time with Amelia & Curry Puffs

I learnt how to cook this pineapple sandfish(wich) from http://ameliade-ssert.blogspot.nl/2013/03/pineapple-grilled-fish.html
It is yummy with pineapple flavour grilled fish sandwich with two pineapple barks.

I ran to Amelia for help when I lost my music in my blog. She was kind enough to help me. I am so happy to listen to my own music playlist whenever I am here. Thank you Amelia!

So I feel I owe Amelia at least coffee or tea. I have decided to ask Amelia for tea and sample some curry puffs I baked for the first time. Help yourself Amelia, feel free to grab one or two curry puffs, don't be shy! Do you like some sugar in your tea? I added some music notes on the sugar with marzipan, you know? To remind you again I have music! Thank you so much Amelia.

This is the first time I bake curry puffs and that of the spiraal kind. Do you like it? I borrowed this recipe from http://citarasawan.blogspot.nl/2013/01/karipap-lapis-sardine.html

Like Amelia always says, "Have a great weekend!"

Matcha Roll

Before I was off skiing in Austria, I learnt how to bake matcha swiss roll from cooking with dog

I like this recipe a lot!

So I tried replacing matcha with cocoa powder.

Replacing cocoa powder to orange juice.

Guess the video is helpful if my drawing is not.

Instead of cooking with the dog, I was busy rolling clay with my cat into something else too.

 THis piece is sold, yayyy!

Been busy  rock and rolling swiss rolls , ceramic clay, rolled down the slopes and among other things I know I should start updating my website http://yuekycheah.com
I will start and keep the ball rolling soon.

But for now I will just follow my cat's work ethic ......
